The current state of the project is examined, critical success factors such as contracts, project staff, scope and the project schedule progress are reviewed and an overall assessment report can be produced if required. Resultant actions can range from project abandonment at one extreme, to the implementation of some basic project control along with channelled communications.

Ultimately, projects are about people and the way they work together, proper project controls merely formalise the overall structure. As long as a project has the right people and the supplier is committed to a successful outcome, project issues can be overcome. It just comes down to everyone working collaboratively to a common successful outcome for all parties concerned.
